The Graduates: Preferred Ensemble for Fever’s “We Call It Jazz” & “Tribute to the Blues” Concerts

IN General

Over the past year, The Graduates have had the honour of becoming the regular, preferred lineup for Fever’s hugely popular concert series, We Call It Jazz and Tribute to the Blues. These concerts have become a standout feature of Sydney’s live music scene, consistently drawing full audiences eager to immerse themselves in timeless arrangements performed by some of the city’s most accomplished jazz musicians. We’re proud to have grown into the consistent musical backbone of these productions.

A NIGHT OF JAZZ IN A HERITAGE BALLROOM

All concerts take place at the beautifully restored Albert Palais Ballroom in Leichhardt — an iconic Art Deco venue that instantly transports audiences to another era. The ballroom’s elegant architecture, soaring ceiling, and candlelit atmosphere create the perfect setting for a night of live jazz and blues. Fever’s promise to “be transported to another era” is genuinely realised in this space, both visually and musically.

TWO CONCERTS EACH NIGHT — AN INTIMATE EXPERIENCE

Each Fever event features two sittings per evening, giving audiences a close, immersive experience and allowing the ensemble to deliver exceptionally tight, energetic performances twice per night. This structure enables us to engage intimately with each audience, maintain a consistently high standard of musicianship and bring the full character of each show to life.

WE CALL IT JAZZ

We Call It Jazz celebrates the golden age of jazz, with a strong focus on the vibrant, soulful spirit of New Orleans. Our arrangements draw from the heart of early jazz and swing, and feature classics such as:

“Hello Dolly”
“Ain’t Misbehavin;”
“Basin Street Blues”
“When The Saints Go Marching In”

These New Orleans staples sit alongside a broader collection of swing and traditional jazz tunes, giving the concert a joyful, authentic atmosphere that audiences instantly connect with. This show continues to sell out regularly, thanks to its blend of nostalgia, high-level musicianship, and the lively chemistry of the ensemble.

TRIBUTE TO THE BLUES

Tribute to the Blues brings a rawer, rootsier tone — grounded in storytelling, emotion, and groove. These shows celebrate legendary artists such as:

B.B. King
Etta James
Muddy Waters
Ray Charles
The Blues Brothers

This series is one of our favourites to perform, offering space for expressive solos, soulful vocals, and powerful ensemble interplay. The audience energy during these concerts is consistently electric.

BECOMING FEVER’S REGULAR LINEUP

We’re grateful to now be considered the go-to ensemble for these popular Fever productions. Our role includes providing a polished, reliable musical foundation, interpreting classic repertoire with authenticity and flair, delivering a consistent premium standard for every performance, and shaping the musical identity of both concert series. It has been a privilege to collaborate with Fever on concerts that spotlight real live musicianship in such an iconic venue.
