Marcello Maio is a highly respected Australian musician, composer and musical director, recognised for his exceptional versatility on piano, piano accordion and keyboards. Equally at home in jazz, Latin and world-music settings, Marcello’s distinctive musicianship has made him a sought-after performer in many of Sydney’s leading ensembles.

A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Bachelor of Music – Jazz Performance, 2008), Marcello studied under renowned Australian jazz figures Mike Nock, Judy Bailey and Matt McMahon. Earlier, he was named one of the Top 20 Music Performers in NSW during the 2004 HSC, cementing his reputation from a young age as a standout creative talent.

Raised in a musical family, Marcello has long been a featured performer alongside his father, accordion virtuoso Ross Maio, in acclaimed productions such as From Caruso to Bocelli and Viva La Fisarmonica. Since joining the triple ARIA Award-winning group Monsieur Camembert in 2004, he has toured extensively, appearing in Bangkok, Canada, West Timor, New York, Shanghai and at the Gypsy Jazz Festival in New Caledonia.

His festival résumé includes many of Australia’s premier arts and music events, including Woodford Folk Festival, Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, Bellingen Global Carnival, Noosa Jazz Festival, Dreaming Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and the Brisbane Festival.

Marcello’s career highlights include performing with multiple GRAMMY Award-winning composer Maria Schneider (2015) and acclaimed international R&B/neo-soul artist Cody ChesnuTT on his 2013 Australian Tour.

As a composer, Marcello was selected to write the original score for the 2024 Australian feature film What About Sal? directed and produced by actor John Jarratt, further showcasing his creative breadth across genres and media.
